Regional Data That Drives Decision-Making

Together, We Can Steward a Prosperous Future for Tampa Bay

The State of the Region is an annual event highlighting findings from complementary research projects that provide reliable, objective data. The research helps business, nonprofit and community leaders to better understand the region’s strengths and weaknesses, how we compare to metro areas across the country, and what actions will help move the needle on our greatest challenges.

The drivers of our regional economy— identified as Economic Vitality, Innovation, Infrastructure, Talent, and Civic Quality—represent the critical needs of our residents and businesses.

Together, they create a framework for prosperity and lead to outcomes that indicate whether our economy is growing, and if that growth is being enjoyed by everyone.

Data is a powerful tool for change, and now it’s easier to harness it. New Tableau dashboards are available for every indicator, allowing users the opportunity to see expanded demographic breakdowns, compare performance by metro areas, and realize trends over time.

A starting point for change

The Regional Competitiveness Report (RCR) was created with the understanding that what gets measured is what gets done. For more than seven years, it has served as a trusted resource by business, government, and nonprofit leaders throughout Tampa Bay. A companion piece to the Regional Competitiveness Report, the Tampa Bay E-Insights Report is a multi-dimensional quantitative assessment of the region’s current economic health.

More than 60 indicators are used to track Tampa Bay’s strengths and weaknesses, and measure our performance against 19 benchmark communities nationwide. Many organizations use the report to help define challenges, prioritize activities, and allocate resources. With the same knowledge-base, we can work collaboratively for positive change in Tampa Bay.

We are dynamic, diverse, and growing, but to create a community where all our residents thrive, we have to understand how our strengths and weaknesses perform against other communities across the country.
